Role Overview

The Transport and Logistics Specialist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive market research and baseline assessments to identify trade logistics needs, infrastructure gaps, and systemic bottlenecks across key West African trade hubs. This role focuses on optimizing cross-border documentation and leveraging AfCFTA opportunities to enhance trade efficiency for SMEs and pan-African corporations.

Geographic Scope

The specialist will conduct research and oversee operations within target ports and corridors in the following countries:

  • Benin
  • Ghana
  • Senegal
  • Nigeria
  • Guinea (Conakry)
  • Mauritania

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Research & Diagnostics: Identify existing actors in parcel transport and groupage models, analyzing strengths and weaknesses of current practices.
  • Technical Assessment: Evaluate technical logistics requirements, including warehouse facilities, cold chain technology, and specialized transit centers near major ports.
  • Compliance & Policy: Analyze regional trade policies (WAEMU, ECOWAS) and legal conditions related to goods transportation and customs clearance.
  • SME Enablement: Assess the capacity of SMEs and women-led enterprises to access international distribution channels and navigate complex export processes.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Transport, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Proven experience in conducting feasibility studies or baseline assessments in the African trade sector.
  • Fluency in English and French to support multi-country interventions.
  • Strong knowledge of AfCFTA regulations and West African logistics corridors.
