Role Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our team as an Intern – Junior Consultant. This is an exceptional opportunity for a recent graduate or a student in their final year looking to gain significant experience in the fast-paced world of African professional services and consulting. The Intern – Junior Consultant will work closely with senior leadership and project teams, playing a vital supporting role in both the firm’s business development efforts and the execution of high-impact client projects across the continent. The ideal candidate must be proactive, possess excellent organizational skills, and have a genuine interest in the economic and political landscape of Africa.
Key Responsibilities and Main Duties:
The Intern – Junior Consultant’s responsibilities will be multi-faceted, requiring adaptability and a willingness to engage in diverse tasks, including but not limited to:
- Business Development and Market Intelligence Support:
- Assisting the Business Development Team: Provide crucial support to the Business Development and Sales teams in identifying new opportunities, tracking leads, and maintaining the firm’s client relationship management (CRM) system.
- Market and Sector Research: Conduct in-depth research on key African markets, economic trends, regulatory environments, and specific sectors (e.g., infrastructure, finance, energy, health) to inform the firm’s strategy and proposal development.
- Proposal and Pitch Deck Development: Contribute to the drafting, editing, and formatting of high-quality proposals, expressions of interest, and presentation materials for prospective clients, ensuring alignment with client needs and firm capabilities.
- Marketing Content Support: Assist in preparing content for the firm’s thought leadership initiatives, website, and social media channels (e.g., articles, case studies, press releases).
- Project Execution and Consulting Support:
- Project Management Assistance: Support Project Managers and Senior Consultants in the day-to-day management of client engagements, including timeline tracking, deliverable monitoring, and internal coordination.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather, clean, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data relevant to ongoing projects, translating complex information into clear, actionable insights for client reports.
- Report Drafting: Contribute substantively to the drafting and editing of client reports, presentations, and technical notes, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and professional presentation.
- Internal and External Coordination:
- Liaison with Africa-wide Branches and Representatives: Act as a coordination point, interacting regularly with various regional branches and representatives of the firm across Africa, facilitating information flow and ensuring coherence in regional operations.
- Expert and Stakeholder Interaction: Interact professionally with subject matter experts, external consultants, and client stakeholders dedicated to specific projects, assisting in scheduling meetings, preparing background materials, and synthesizing key takeaways.
- Internal Knowledge Management: Help organize and maintain the firm’s knowledge repository, ensuring project documentation, best practices, and research findings are properly cataloged and accessible to the wider team.
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with proven ability to synthesize information from various sources and draw logical conclusions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French are often essential. The ability to draft professional, client-ready documents is mandatory.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Familiarity with CRM software or project management tools is a plus. A mastering of Google Workspace tools is an asset.
- Cross-Cultural Acumen: A keen interest in and understanding of the African economic, political, and cultural landscape, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, Pan-African environment.
- Personal Attributes: Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
